Dutch tourist makes international headlines for reckless driving

A Dutch man driving a flashy convertible performed a life-threatening maneuver in Monaco this week, putting not only himself and his passenger at risk but also everyone on the highway in mortal danger.

Shocking footage is currently going viral on social media. A dark blue convertible takes the exit from the highway in Monaco, appears to have made a mistake, and the driver then casually decides to drive backward up the exit ramp until he’s back on the highway. Utter madness. People are reacting with bewilderment and utter astonishment to such life-threatening driving behavior. A passerby filmed the Dutchman’s bizarre stunt and posted the footage online. Miraculously, the reckless decision did not result in a serious traffic accident. That’s what they call “escaping by the skin of your teeth.”

What exactly happened?

The Dutch tourist made a life-threatening mistake on the E74 heading toward Monaco after missing his exit. Instead of continuing to the next exit, he decided to drive dozens of meters in reverse on the highway—with no shoulder and with oncoming trucks.

A stunned passerby captured the scene and shared the footage on social media. “This man misses his exit and then starts driving in reverse on the highway, on a curve with no shoulder, while heavy trucks are coming toward him,” he wrote in the caption. The video has already been viewed more than half a million times in just one week.

The online community agrees: this could have ended very badly.
