Following Russia’s recent attacks on Ukraine, the European Union has announced a new list of sanctions against Russia.
“Every new attack on Ukraine is yet another reason for Europe to step up the pressure on Russia,” writes Kaja Kallas, the European Union’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, on X.
In recent days and weeks, Russia has stepped up its launches of long-range missiles and drones against Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities. Civilian targets have not been spared.
“In response to the recent series of Russian airstrikes, the EU today adopted new sanctions lists targeting five individuals involved in the Russian military-industrial complex,” she added.
Speaking to the Kyiv Independent, a European Union official named Ramil Badgutdinov, CEO of a company that produces precision electromechanical components used in systems such as the Russian Iskander-M ballistic missile, as one of these five individuals.
Aleksandr Dyukarev, director of a company that manufactures ballistic missiles, including the RS-28 Sarmat missile system, was also named. In addition, the sanctions also target the executives of a company that manufactures navigation components for Russian missiles, a company specializing in drone software, and a company in the space and military sector.
According to The Kyiv Independent, the European External Action Service, led by Kallas, is currently discussing with EU member states a new package of sanctions lists comprising no fewer than 1,600 to 2,000 separate entries.
“While the military is bogged down on the battlefield, Moscow is intensifying its campaign of terror against civilians. The EU must continue to ramp up pressure on Russia until Moscow ends the war,” Kallas concluded.
