A family holiday in Manarola, Italy, near La Spezia, ended in tragedy. Within minutes, three people lost their lives: two children, ages six and eight, and the father of one of children.
According to Italian and Spanish media, the incident reportedly took place at a swimming pool where five children between the ages of five and ten were playing, while the adults were inside the house.
According to initial reports, an eight-year-old boy caused the drowning of his six-year-old cousin during a game by preventing him from getting out of the water. When the little boy’s body was discovered, a tragic chain reaction ensued.
The father of the deceased child, reportedly in shock, is said to have grabbed the eight-year-old boy and held him underwater until he, too, drowned.
The situation escalated even further when the father of the eight-year-old boy, in a fit of rage, allegedly attacked his brother-in-law with a knife and killed him. In a very short time, two children and one adult from the same family lost their lives.
Several family members, who had witnessed the tragedy directly or indirectly, had to be hospitalized. Italian authorities have launched an investigation to determine the exact circumstances of the two deaths that followed the initial drowning and the course of the confrontation between the adults.
