Donald Trump is in "excellent health," according to a new medical report, but he needs to lose weight and exercise more. That's according to a routine examination at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, the results of which the White House announced on Friday.
According to the president's doctor, Sean Barbabella, Trump's heart, lungs and brain are still functioning well and his overall physical and neurological condition is fine. However, he did receive preventive advice, including diet, the use of low-dose aspirin, more exercise and further weight loss.
The now 79-year-old Donald Trump himself stated after the examination that "everything was perfectly fine". It was his third medical checkup in 13 months. The US president is the oldest person ever to hold office in the US and regularly uses that status to emphasize that he is said to be more energetic and fit than his predecessor Joe Biden.
Still, his health remains a subject of debate. In recent months, photos of a red rash on his neck, swollen ankles and a bruised hand again raised questions. According to the medical report, the bruise on his hand was allegedly caused by a lot of handshaking combined with the use of aspirin.
The report also states that Trump is 1 meter 90 tall and weighs 108 kilograms, almost 7 kilograms more than at his previous checkup. He also uses three medications: two drugs to lower his cholesterol and aspirin as a prevention against heart disease.
During his first term, there was criticism of a lack of disclosure about his medical condition, especially when he ended up in the hospital after a covid infection. Although Trump's physical health is less of a controversy now than Joe Biden's was, many Americans remain doubtful. In a recent poll, 59 percent said he lacks the mental capacity to lead the country, while 55 percent questioned his physical health.
