Man buys lobster at restaurant and immediately releases it into the sea

Last weekend, a French animal rights activist bought a lobster for 300 euros at a restaurant and immediately released it into the Mediterranean Sea.

Stéphane Lamart, founder and president of an animal rights organization, was shocked when, at a restaurant in Roquebrune-Cap-Martin, in the Alpes-Maritimes department on the Côte d’Azur in southern France on the Mediterranean Sea, was presented with the “catch of the day”: a still-living langoustine.

The animal was offered to him—a committed vegetarian—as “a regular food product, priced by weight: about 300 euros for this langoustine weighing about one kilogram,” he told the French television channel BFMTV. He decided to buy the creature to change its fate and returned it to the sea.

“With this story, the Stéphane Lamart Association aims to raise awareness among consumers: behind the lobster or langoustine offered at a market stall, in a fish tank, or on a platter lies, first and foremost, a living animal,” the association’s website states.

Nor is this the first time Lamart has taken such action: he has previously released live crustaceans in Menton.
