Ten people were killed in Kyiv overnight from Sunday to Monday, Ukraine’s prosecutor general announced on Monday morning. On Sunday, Ukrainian President Zelensky had already warned of a major attack.
“There are renewed reports from our intelligence services that the Russians are preparing a new large-scale attack. That is entirely in keeping with Putin’s style: right after the celebration of the 250th anniversary of U.S. independence and just before the NATO summit in Ankara,” Volodymyr Zelensky wrote on social media on Sunday.
"Last night, in response to the terrorist attacks by the regime in Kyiv on civilian infrastructure on Russian territory, the armed forces of the Russian Federation carried out a large-scale attack on Ukraine," the Russian Ministry of Defense wrote on its Telegram channel on Monday morning.
According to Moscow,“defense industry enterprises, energy and oil facilities in the city of Kyiv and the Kyiv region, as well as the infrastructure of military airfields in the Dnipropetrovsk, Poltava, Cherkasy, Chernihiv, and Kyiv” were hit.
The attacks left 10 people dead and 46 wounded. Ukrainian air defenses detected 419 aerial threats, including 68 missiles (of which Ukraine intercepted 37) and 351 drones (of which 326 were neutralized), the Ukrainian Air Force reported on Monday morning.
“According to initial reports, at 8:30 a.m., the impact of 29 ballistic missiles (including anti-ship missiles) and 18 attack drones was recorded at 34 locations, as well as the crash of downed drones (debris) at 16 locations,” the Air Force reported on social media.
