A 13-year-old girl died on Thursday in the Italian Dolomites after falling into a 90-meter ravine. She was hiking with her family.
The Czech girl slipped at an altitude of about 2,600 meters near Cima di Valbona, according to the Italian online news outlet I Dolomiti. She fell about 90 meters and landed in a ravine.
Rescue workers stabilized and intubated the girl, after which she was transported by helicopter. Despite prolonged resuscitation efforts, she died from her severe injuries. Mountain rescuers and psychologists provided support to her family, and her body was taken to the morgue in Predazzo.
Cima di Valbona is a mountain in the Latemar massif of the Dolomites, on the border between South Tyrol and Trentino in Italy. The summit is approximately 2,691 meters high and is located near Predazzo and the Passo Feudo.m
