In Schorndorf, a town in the German state of Baden-Württemberg, near Stuttgart, a 2-year-old child died after being left in a car by her mother.
Shortly before 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon, police received a report that a lifeless child had been found in a parked car. Emergency responders rushed to the scene and attempted to resuscitate the child, but it was too late: the 20-month-old girl died at the scene.
According to German media reports, preliminary investigations indicate that the 44-year-old mother may have forgotten the child in the car and only discovered her there several hours later, in the afternoon.
The Waiblingen Criminal Investigation Department and the Stuttgart Public Prosecutor’s Office have launched an investigation. An autopsy will be performed to shed more light on the circumstances of the death.
