France is holding its breath; an unsettling disappearance quieted tempers this week.
France's BFMTV reports that police are on a massive search for a four-day-old baby in the Maine-et-Loire region of western France.
Police were confronted on Thursday morning with an "alarming disappearance" of a four-day-old baby. The mother left her home in Avrille around 4 a.m. and then moved on to Château-Gonthier. Shortly thereafter, she attempted suicide and was taken to the hospital severely injured. But all traces of her four-day-old son are missing, for now.
A hasty search is now underway for the baby in the Maine-et-Loire region of western France. The child was reportedly wearing a romper when he disappeared. Police are battling against the clock to find the newborn baby in time.
For now, there are no indications that anyone else is involved in the tragedy. The French people are searching with the police and are hoping that the mother took the baby to an acquaintance or family member. For now, however, there are no clues towards that direction.
"With the support of the gendarmerie and the fire department, police officers are still actively searching for the baby," prosecutor Eric Bouillard reported on Friday in a press release. The prosecutor asks anyone who can help find the child to contact the Angers police station immediately.
