A man was arrested on Sunday near U.S. President Donald Trump’s golf course in Los Angeles after acting suspiciously in the lead-up to the president’s planned visit.
According to police, the man was seen taking photos and videos, monitoring security, and carrying ammunition. Later, a loaded handgun was found in his car. On Tuesday, President Trump was scheduled to attend a fundraising event at the Trump National Golf Course in Rancho Palos Verdes, near Los Angeles.
During a search of his home the day after the incident, additional weapons were found, including an illegally modified rifle, another handgun, bulletproof vests, high-capacity magazines, and notebooks containing disturbing notes.
Authorities have not stated that there is a credible threat to the public. “There is no room for error, especially given the previous attempts on President Trump’s life,” Patrick Grandy, deputy director of the FBI’s Los Angeles field office, told U.S. media.
The suspect has been identified as 38-year-old Jeanine John Taele of Downey, California. She is charged with possession of an unregistered short-barreled rifle, a crime carrying a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years in prison. She is expected to appear in court in late August.
Meanwhile, the police are continuing the investigation in cooperation with the U.S. Secret Service.
