After years of silence, British singer Duffy returned to the stage in London last weekend. In an emotional and deliberately intimate performance for a small group of fans, she made her comeback as a singer. Her return follows a difficult period during which she disappeared from the spotlight for years after a traumatic experience that turned her life upside down.
Duffy, known for hits such as Mercy and Warwick Avenue, had been absent from public life for a long time. In 2020, she revealed that in 2010 she had been drugged, abducted abroad, and held captive and abused there for days. The singer later explained that she continued to be drugged even after her return to the United Kingdom and that she remained silent for years out of fear.
The intimate concert in London was therefore more than just a musical performance: it was a symbolic step in her recovery. Duffy had previously indicated on social media that she was working on a comeback, and her performance was seen by fans as a long-awaited breakthrough after fifteen years of silence.
Now, the singer also plans to tell her full story for the first time in a documentary for Disney+. The streaming platform announced in March that the film will follow her life, from her childhood in Wales and her breakthrough to her disappearance from the music world and the aftermath of the trauma. According to Disney+, the documentary will give Duffy the space—both extensive and sensitive—to tell her story in her own words.
The documentary, which is expected to be released later this year, also features archival footage and interviews with family, friends, and people from the music industry. For Duffy, this marks a new chapter after years of silence, recovery, and cautiously re-emerging into the public eye.
