Construction workers made a shocking discovery in southeastern Poland. During renovation work on the driveway of a private property, the remains of unborn babies were discovered. Until recently, the property was owned by a 57-year-old pathologist.

In addition to the remains of the unborn babies, medical waste was also discovered. The former owner of the property was arrested on Friday. Investigators suspect that she illegally buried the remains of the fetuses instead of disposing of them properly, possibly to save money. Polish media report that she has admitted to burying medical waste, and police have seized medical records as part of the investigation.

The District Prosecutor’s Office in Rzeszów was notified on June 10, 2026, of the discovery, on the grounds of one of the plots in the village of Lutoryż, about 170 kilometers east of Kraków, of significant quantities of items constituting medical waste, including paraffin blocks, test tubes, and packaging materials, a spokesperson for the Regional Public Prosecutor’s Office in Rzeszów told a local newspaper. Local media also report that the number of fetuses found could be as high as one hundred.

Police technicians have been thoroughly combing the entire site for several days. The investigation is also continuing in the area surrounding the site, including in nearby drainage systems. Authorities are investigating possible charges related to the improper handling of human remains and illegal waste disposal. The woman could face up to 12 years in prison for these offenses.

The case has deeply shocked the local community. Residents describe the former owner as reclusive, while the current homeowners were unaware of what was buried on their property. The arrested woman bought the house two years ago but sold it about six months ago to a young couple.

The police were scheduled to begin questioning the suspect on Saturday, but she fell ill and had to be taken to the hospital.
