U.S. President Donald Trump has once again lashed out at Iran following new U.S. attacks on Iranian targets and tit-for-tat exchanges of fire in the region around the Strait of Hormuz. On his platform Truth Social, Trump wrote that the U.S. may reach a point where it will be “forced” to “finish the job militarily”—a mission he claims has already begun successfully. “If that happens, the Islamic Republic of Iran will no longer exist,” he warned.
The escalation followed Iranian attacks on shipping in the strategically important strait, prompting the U.S. to strike targets in Iran again overnight from Saturday to Sunday. According to U.S. sources, the targets included military installations such as radar stations, missile and drone storage facilities, and air defense systems. Tensions immediately spread throughout the Gulf region. For example, the military activated air defense systems in Kuwait, and sirens sounded in Bahrain.
According to Trump, Iran had once again violated the ceasefire. Vice President JD Vance also struck a triumphant tone on Saturday. If a final agreement is reached, that would be “great,” he said, but even without a deal, he believes Iran would be left weakened. “America wins either way,” Vance stated.
In the same message, Trump also announced that he would nominate Lance Schroyer as the next director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Schroyer is a former Oklahoma state trooper and a former Marine. Secretary of Homeland Security Markwayne Mullin praised the nomination and said that Schroyer will play a key role in implementing Trump’s deportation policy.
